FPL mini-league admin tools: what to look for

The official Fantasy Premier League site gives you a table and nothing else. It has no concept of an entry fee, a prize, or who owes what. So almost every paid mini-league ends up running on a spreadsheet and a group chat, with one person doing the chasing.

An admin tool should replace that. At minimum it needs to:

• Track who has paid their entry fee, and total up what's been collected
• Let you define a prize pool and split it however your league agreed
• Work out who's actually winning each prize from the live standings
• Give you a way to tell the whole league something without a group chat

This is the question most people never think to ask, and it matters more than any feature.

FPL Manager IDs are public — they sit in the URL of anyone's team page. If a tool decides who the admin is purely from a Manager ID typed into a box, then anyone who knows your ID can claim your league and get at its payment records.

Some tools collect entry fees themselves and pay out the pot. That is convenient, but it means a third party is holding your league's cash, usually takes a percentage, and adds a party to argue with if something goes wrong.

The alternative is a tool that never touches the money: members pay the admin the way they already do, and the tool just keeps the ledger. Fewer moving parts, no cut taken, and no dependency on a company staying solvent until May. Decide which model you want before you compare features — it's the biggest difference between the options.

Anything that requires every member to sign up will fail. In a 20-manager league you will not get 20 people to create accounts, and a half-populated table is worse than no table.

Look for a tool that reads your league straight from FPL, so members appear automatically and there is nothing to invite anyone to. Ideally the parts everyone uses — the table, live scores — should work with no account at all.

The official app updates the mini-league table slowly and ignores bonus points until they are confirmed, which is exactly when everyone is looking. A live tracker worth having should compute provisional bonus from the BPS table and apply automatic substitutions, so the standings you are arguing about on Saturday afternoon are the real ones.
